Redevelopment of a society is not mandatory and there is no set "age" of a building when it has to go through redevelopment. If the structural report is sound and fine, a lot of societies don't go into redevelopment. It requires a consent of more than a certain percentage of flat owners. And it's a very messy process, to be honest.
