Where residents want improvements
Many residential societies in Indian metropolitan areas, including Mumbai, are known for imposing highly restrictive rules, particularly on tenants. These often include demands for 'character certificates,' limitations on the number of occupants per flat, prohibitions on pets for renters, and intrusive moral policing regarding guests or personal lifestyles. Such regulations can create a stifling and discriminatory living environment, especially for bachelors, single individuals, and those with diverse social lives, leading to frustration and a feeling of being treated like criminals rather than residents.
What does point 7 even mean? How is it the RWA's business how many people the landlord is renting his flat to? That's the point of students renting flats so that they can share and live decently. Will the association do the same if a 2 BHK is rented by a family of four or five? Such an idiotic point
I was denied because I am a Muslim and only earning person in the family. If only they knew my own family is the biggest islamophobes I know of. I can still understand the religion part but reason me being the only earning person in the family was very petty given by the woman herself.
Really character certificate and hostel capacity certificate. I would love to see how these homeowners react when their children go to other cities for work and studies and face these useless harrasment
Wtf is a character certificate? Never heard of it. How is a college supposed to certify your character? Even parents / friends won't certify someone's character as we all put on multiple faces 😉. I think a prison is way less restrictive than this "society". Fuck these regressive pricks.
No pets allowed for bachelors tenants? So family can own a pet ? Not bachelor's? The f*ck? So then the "Rent" should also be decreased for a bachelor. And also personal space for bachelors. If anyone is poking even if its the owner. Then legal actions against them. That must also be on the rules.
A couple of years ago, during our annual general meeting of residents, one uncle had suggested 3 rounds of interview and a phone call with the parents of the bachelor/spinster before renting out the flat (regardless of the age). Imagine a 33 year old bachelor having to make his parents speak to the society association to rent out a flat. Thankfully no one agreed with this ridiculous rule.
I (F) live by myself with a cat, I don’t live in a society but the people who make loud noises in my area are the families with their shouting and yelling. This family who live right opposite of my flat are so loud all the time that I can’t have any peace. They chain their 3 dogs outside which makes it worse. The kids in my building scream and cry at the top of their lungs. Also the comments above claiming only bachelors make loud noises and shit, I’m pretty sure they’re not aware of the noise they’re contributing themselves.
